The national umbrella organisation
of NGOs and CBOs in water and sanitation sector, the Uganda Water and
Sanitation NGO Network (UWASNET), reports annually on the NGO performance in
Uganda’s Water and Sanitation Sector. The report contributes to Sector
Performance Monitoring Framework and serves to reflect CSO’s contribution to
the Water and Environment sector. The report is based on data submitted by the
NGO and CBO reporting on a wide range of activities across the
WASH spectrum. UWASNET continues to register more NGOs and CBOs joining the
sector; with membership currently standing at 180 active organisations. Data
was received from 107 (61%) of the active CSOs, a progressive increase in CSO
reporting from 41% in 2008, 53% in 2009, and 57% 2010. Of the CSOs reporting,
56% work in rural areas, 7% in urban areas while 37% work in both rural and
urban areas. The majority (50%) consists of local NGOs. Of these, 21% are
international
NGOs, 18% are faith-based organisations (FBO) and 11% are CBOs.
