From 27th September to 8th October 2011, NETWAS Uganda with support from PLAN Uganda trained water use committees in 12 zones and sub counties Kamuli District. The two phased training included at a 1 day first level refresher training of 11 extensive workers. During which 4 new water committees were formed and trained for 2 days.

In the second level, 8 exiting water use committees were trained in 4 sub-counties; these committees were trained by the extensive workers who had benefited from the refresher training.

The training aimed at strengthening community water source management structures through:

1. Forming new water users committees new water committees and reviving non functional ones at broken water sources the EU water facility has rehabilitated.

2. Equipping water the new and old committees will basic management, booking keeping accountability skills and basic sanitation and hygiene knowledge to effectively manage water sources.

It is envisaged that the training will increase hygiene and sanitation around the water source; improve the management of water facilities to boost water service delivery in the district.

The trainings were part of activities under the EU water facility project implemented by Plan and NETWAS Uganda.

The EU Water facility project is a 3 year project implemented by Plan Uganda and NETWAS. The project will cover four districts of Kamuli, Luwero, Lira and Tororo districts in 16 sub counties from April 2011 to March 2013.
